Lion and lioness, the mild
Inflammable beasts,
At their precise peril kept
Distance and repose –
And there the serpent
Innocently shone its head.

So the hawk had it's pursuit. So Death
Opened its childish eyes. So the angels
Overcame Adam: he was defiled
By Balm. Creator, and creature made
Of unnatural earth, he howled
To the raven find me; to the wolf
Eat, my brother; and to the fire I am clean.

León y leona, apacibles
E inflamables bestias,
En su preciso peligro mantuvieron
Distancia y reposo –

Hizo brillar su cabeza
Inocentemente.

Pues la muerte abrió sus ojos
De niño. Pues los ángeles superaron
A Adán: El fue amancillado
Por bálsamo. Creador, y criatura
Hecha de tierra no natural;
Aulló al cuervo: Encuéntrame;
Al lobo: Come, mi hermano;
Y al fuego: Estoy limpio.
